Golf course or putting green?…

HH_golf11_12_675x359_FitToBoxSmallDimension_Center[1]As I was sitting in a doctor’s appointment yesterday with my son, God used something he said to really grab my attention.  The doctor asked him about a pool he shared that our family was building and the doctor asked, “So is there anything else you can tell me about the pool?”  My son, like many times, ignored the question and replied, “Well, my dad is also building a golf course in our backyard.”….Oh, yes, the doctor’s eyes grew really big as she replied, “Wow! you must have a really big backyard.”  My son calmly replied, “Yes, we do.”

Now thankfully I was sitting there and could quickly fix this answer a little bit because “No we didn’t just win the lottery.”  What my son should have said was, “My dad is also building a putting green.”

Later I felt like God used this to help me see the differences in how he views the world vs. how we view the world and opportunities that he has for us, but we are too narrow-minded or afraid to explore his great plan for our lives.

To my son with mild autism, he saw a big golf course ….many times, I believe God sees the big golf course for our lives too where he wants to take on a course that has some of the most magnificent views and yes, sometimes frustrating twists and turns, but ultimately to a victorious ending.

God is standing there beside us looking at this amazing golf course he has laid out for us to enjoy, yet we stand beside him only looking at a small putting green saying, “This is such a boring life.  I feel so alone.  I feel so confined to very little that I can accomplish in my life.”…this is not what God wants you to see for your amazing life!

God so many times uses my son to show me so many beautiful character lessons.  I pray one day his book Marvel in your Autistic Eyes, Character lessons from my son can help many people to see how God made no mistakes when he made children with autism with a little extra sprinkle of special…

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways” declares the Lord…Isaiah 55:8
